Courtney Road connects state route 14 to a large quickly developing area on a plateau above White Salmon in Klickitat County. This roadway also serves as an emergency evacuation route for the plateau, especially if the other main route out of the area (Snowden Road) is closed for some reason.
Single Lane road for the majority of the rebuild portion. Hard to maintain during winter storms causing the roadway to be closed on occasion. No safety devices on the rebuild portion and failing storm water systems. This project will reconstruct a portion of the roadway by straightening curves, widening the roadway to provide 12’ lanes with 1’ shoulders and providing an asphalt surface. The project will also improve sight distance and address roadway drainage. This project will also repair failing pavement sections, repair failing drainage structures and install an asphalt overlay on an additional section of Courtney Road.
The project increased vehicular safety by providing sight distance, alignment improvements and an asphalt surface. Also, reconstructing this roadway opens an alternative route for emergency services and provides an alternative escape route during emergencies such as wildfires. It also improve access to US forest service recreational lands that are adjacent to this roadway.
