Sullivan Lake Inlet Bridge is located along Sullivan Lake Road about 9.3 miles northeast of the town of Ione. Sullivan Lake Inlet Bridge was identified as an important project to improve habitat in Harvey Creek during Boundary Dam License negotiations when the concept of Above Sullivan Fund was developed. Lengthening the new bridge will allow for lateral movement of the active channel and imporve habitat features in the Harvey Creek Watershed.
The existing Sullivan Lake Inlet Bridge was too short and prevented the channel to naturally migrate back and forth and caused wood and coarse debris to build up, blocking the waterway for migrating fish. The new bridge accommodates HL-93 loading, two traffic lanes meeting shared bicycle standards, and will allow for wood and coarse debris to flow under the bridge as well as improve the habitat for fish.
The new 100' long and 30' wide bridge replaced a 70' long bridge that was only 20' wide. Cars can now traverse the bridge in both directions at the same time with bicycle traffic. The longer bridge has greatly improved the habitat for fish and many people often stop and look over the edge of the bridge at the migrating fish which are free to move upstream now that the wood and coarse debris no longer blocks their path.
