Whether you are new to the county road scene or have a storied career, you know that a third of Washington's county road system consists of local roads and the only sources of funds for maintenance and improvements are each county's own local road funds - local roads are not eligible for current grant funding sources. As a partner, our agency has heard counties express for many years that they need additional resources to direct towards local roads. We agree! So, here is your chance to help us make the case to the Legislature for a local road funding program. CRAB has submitted a proposal to the legislature for a local road grant funding program and we need your help. We need good examples of your local roads depicting the challenges county road departments regularly face, east/west, rural/urban, large county and small county. Get your nominations in (up to 3 per county) by September 30th - the uglier the road, the better!
