Now accepting submissions for the 2026 Project Design Competition!
We want to highlight the good work being done across Washington, especially the innovative and notable designs being made in counties and cities. The goal of the Project Design Competition is to bring interesting solutions to old problems, new ideas and more to the table so municipalities can learn from each other and advance the field of road design forward. Projects in construction or finished of all types are accepted, but specialized projects, work utilizing new features, design elements, methods, processes and experimental designs are encouraged.
Who Can Submit a Project
County and cities attending the conference can submit one project per municipality.
What is Required
To submit a project, please:
- Fill out the submission form below. While not required, photos included with the form or submitted before the conference are appreciated and will be shown on screen throughout the conference.
- Bring a display board and easel (a limited number of extras easels will be available) to the conference registration table when you arrive. Project posters include information such a brief summary, outcomes achieved, key challenges addressed, lessons learned and relevant images and graphics. Projects will be on display for the length of the conference and may be removed after the closing session. Please limit your display to 36" x 48" maximum.
Judging Criteria
This competition is to recognize projects that demonstrate:
- Complexity and Difficulty: successfully navigating significant technical, financial, regulatory, or operational challenges.
- Innovation: creative solutions, new approaches, or forward-thinking strategies that improve public service delivery.
- Community Impact and Pride: measurable benefits to residents and contributions that strengthen public trust and local identity.
- Lessons Learned: clear insights gained, obstacles overcome, and knowledge that can benefit other jurisdictions.
New This Year
In addition to having poster boards on display, time will be dedicated during the conference agenda for competitors to stand with their display to share their projects and answer questions from conference attendees in a informal, relaxed setting.
A panel of judges will evaluate the projects and the winning county will be announced on Friday morning during the closing remarks. Please contact Drew Woods, PE with any questions and we look forward to recognizing the work that is moving our communities forward!
