Cloverdale Road is a collector connecting the developing areas south of Kalama with Interstate 5 (I-5) and the city's commercial and industrial areas. The existing 5-foot span box culvert at milepost 1.78 carries an unnamed tributary of Schoolhouse Creek. This culvert is undersized; it collects woody debris at the inlet and backs up water during major rainfall events. During flood events, the creek overtops the road and damages the roadway.
The existing culvert will be replaced with a new culvert with sufficient capacity for the 100-year storm, and designed to meet fish passage requirements.
