The South Fork Road links the South Fork area of Raymond to State Route 6 as a haul route for forestry and farming products in addition to recreation and residential access. The road is narrow, bumpy and rough to drive. The asphalt concrete pavement surface has distresses throughout with alligator cracking, potholes, and patching. The current roadway width is twenty feet (20') and shoulder widths that are substandard. The road alignment has numerous horizontal curve line of sight problems including a 180 degree switchback and vertical curve. The roadway transverses through timber areas, thus sections have overhanging limbs causing a hazard to the travelling public.
Improvements include; drainage improvements, roadway widening to accommodate twelve foot (12') lanes, shoulder widening, side slope improvements, horizontal and vertical line of sight improvements, and preleveling and wearing course lifts of hot mix asphalt.
Work will be completed in two phases; (1) county force work to include - clearing, grubbing, shoulder widening, driveway culverts, horizontal curve change ($225,000) and (2) contract work ($220,000) to include - resurface with hot mix asphalt, and guardrail.
