This roadway is a 32' wide Rural Major Collector and is classified as a T3 Truck Route with an ADT of 2,121 vehicles per day. Brooks Road does not meet current rural arterial design standards for Spokane County and has a PSC rating of 2 due to severe alligator cracking, rutting and potholes. The speed limit is posted at 45-mph. The project proposes to add 6' wide shoulders for a total width of 36', guardrails constructed where appropriate, and the construction of a cement- treated base with an asphalt surface. The road is a significant arterial roadway connecting smaller urban and rural development areas in west Spokane County to routes of statewide significance such as US-2, SR-904, as well as being a major connector to local roads and the cities of Airway Heights and Medical Lake. The corridor serves a multitude of users including Fairchild Airforce Base, local freight, agricultural, commercial, industrial, commuter, and recreational. This project has federal funding to contribute to the completion of improvements. If additional funding through CRAB was garnered this project would complete a gap in roadway improvements that began in 2019 when CRAB awarded funding to the Brooks Road phase 2 project in 2018. Funding awarded for this phase of roadway would complete approximate 4-mile arterial link between the City of Medical Lake Corporate Limits (SR 902) and US-2.
