Eden Valley Raod is currently a dead end road, but it is on the county 25-year plan for connection to Brookfield. There are quite a few properties served by this road and it is also the only public road to the Historic Crooked Creek Cemetery (about 200 years old). There are several residences at the very end of the road. To them this county road is the only public access to their homes. This is also a haul route for log trucks, which we consider to be freight.

This road tends to flood numerous time every wet winter season. In most areas where there is water over the road it is a few inches deep. In the area of this project, the water over the road has been much more significant. As much as 2 feet deep (30 inches according to residents) and moving very swiftly across the road.

There was a dip in the road just before the bridge. When the water in Crooked Creek came up during a flood it took the path over the road rather than under the bridge. The bridge was higher than the road. We raised the road and put additional culverts under the road to handle the flood water.

We still need to raise the road along Crooked Creek above the concfluence with South Creek, but that is about a m ile of road and will be a future project.

This is Eden Valley, we do not get positive feedback from the folks out there.

However, raising the road and putting additional overflow culverts under the road lets the flood waters go downstream without flooding the road at this location. It has flooded at least 2 feet deep in the past and calused the closure of the road.

The reaction from the residents in the area is that the water now backs up more upstream - out of the project area. We will be checking to see if this is true, but I am not convinced.

We used a series of small culvelrts rather than a large one because there was not enough cover. This is a haul road for log trucks.
