Burley Olalla Rd SE is an important east/west connector, connecting residents of southeast Kitsap County with jobs and services in Port Orchard and Gig Harbor via SR 16 and local roads, and serves local trips within the Olalla Valley community: public facilities and small businesses are located on either side of this project.
Much of Burley Olalla Road has been structurally patched repaired by county forces in 2019 to mitigate further pavement distresses reported in 2018. A full new wearing course is the next logical step in ensuring the LOS is met for this essential corridor.
The new wearing course will also include an FHWA Safety edgeTM angled edge to allow vehicles that have departed the road to return to it more easily, reducing run-off crashes. Burley Olalla Rd is an ideal candidate for this treatment because it has gravel shoulders and 82% of accidents in the past five years involved a vehicle running off the road.
Kitsap County resurfaced Burley Olalla Rd from SR 16 to Bandix, and Fagerud to Wallace with local funds in 2021. RAP funding will allow us to repair the gap between those areas and restore safe mobility to southeast Kitsap County.
