The Herman Road #22601 is a major collector in the Southwestern portion of the county making a connecting link to SR-17 in the Othello area and providing a link between Adams, Grant and Franklin Counties. The Herman Road is a major haul route, to move carious commodities to area processing plants in the Othello, Grant, and Franklin Counties. Trucks have problems negotiating the road due to its narrowness. Recent ADT indicate 66% truck traffic. The current lane width for this road is 11 foot with a 1' gravel shoulder eroding in places. The lack of adequate structural base material, narrow roadway width and unprotected slope comprise safety.
The project consist of reconstructing the roadway prism to a 30' width with sufficient base to accommodate the truck traffic and asphalt surfacing to create an all-weather road. Side slopes will be modified and guardrail will be added as needed. Te vertical and horizontal alignment will be straightened to improve sight distance and safety. Roadside drainage to be improved and all drainage facilities will be replaced.
