This project will improve Squilchuck Road (10070), a Rural Minor Arterial that serves as the main access to the Wenatchee Heights and Mission Ridge areas from the city of Wenatchee. The road serves residential, recreational, tourism and agricultural traffic and leads to a state park and national forest lands with many of the areas off-road trail systems. This is an often-used bicycle route although less frequented by pedestrians. Squilchuck Road also experiences heavy truck traffic during cherry and apple harvests. The beginning of the project will start at the Wenatchee city limits. The end of the project extends to just south of Pitcher Canyon Road.
The project’s primary purpose is to prevent further deterioration of the existing roadway and to maintain it at the least possible lifecycle cost. In addition to using full-depth reclamation to recycle and rebuild the roadway, the project will widen the road to allow bicyclists a wider shared shoulder and provide other safety improvements, such as the mitigation of clear zone hazards and the installation of guardrail.
