This project is the sixth phase of the Chumstick Highway (93350) improvements. The roadway, classified as a Rural Minor Arterial (FFC 06) and located between Leavenworth and Lake Wenatchee, is a vital link that serves residential, recreational, tourism and agricultural traffic and leads to state parks, national forest lands and the communities of Leavenworth and Plain. It is also used as the detour for US 2 in times of closure, which averages twice a year. This phase of the project addresses the roadway from MP 11.10 to MP 12.40.
Chumstick Hwy, Ph. VI is a preservation project (2R). The county proposes to grind and pave the existing roadway cross section from MP 11.10 to MP 12.40. The primary purpose of this project is to prevent further deterioration of the roadway and maintain it at the least possible lifecycle cost. As a preservation project there are no anticipated modifications to the roadway alignment or profile. Signage will be upgraded as warranted. Existing 11-foot lanes and 2.5-foot shoulders will be maintained. The clear zone will be improved by removing or relocating above-ground obstacles where feasible, beveling culvert ends, and installing guardrail to current standards where warranted.
