R-NE is the main paved county road extending north from Wilson Creek/SR 28 to Hartline/US 2. This is the main N-S route for Agricultural movement and has high a truck percentage. The existing paved surface was 21 feet+/- and this section had a number of substandard curves. This section of road was subject to seasonal weight restrictions.
The existing 21 foot wide pavement surface was widened to 28 feet. All of the curves were brought up to the minimum design standard for 50mph. The structural load carrying capacity was increased to an All-Season capability.
This project was the second phase of four in a corridor improvement project intended to improve R-NE from Wilson Creek/SR 28 north to Hartline/US 2. Public reaction has been positive.
