Hale Road was established in 1907. This road is part of an east/west corridor connecting the communities of Bickleton and Alderdale. Hale Road is used for the primary school bus route to transport children to and from the communities.
The existing road was 16' wide gravel surface with several horizontal curves below the standard of 30 mph. Due to the existing road base the road was impassable when wet.
Klickitat County Public Works designed the project and purchased the R/W. The project was advertised in October 2010. Thompson Brothers of Vancouver, WA was awarded the contract. Construction begin November 2010. The improvements to Hale Road included widening to a 26' section and reconstructing the road base. In addition, the construct included horizontal and vertical realignment, installing 55,620' of fencing and 750 linear feet of storm water improvements. A Bituminous Surface Treatment was added by County Force in 2012.
