Bussell Road connects Milton Freewater, Oregon, by way of Old Milton Highway, to the City of College Place. It is a farm to market road with development that has grown adjacent to it.
The unimproved road consisted of 90 degree corners and was only 18 feet wide. Storm water covered half the road at times. It also had a narrow culvert crossing at Stone Creek and some sight distance problems. Even as a narrow, farm to market road, Bussell also conveys bicyclists and pedestrians.
With the RATA funded project improvements, the substandard curves were improved to a 40 mph road design, sight distance problems were eliminated, the narrow culvert crossing was replaced with a longer culvert and the road was widened to 34 feet. The public has offered numerous compliments regarding these improvements.
