Old Hwy 97 is a secondary connector between Brewster and Okanogan, important for agriculture and commuting. It is one of the most highly traveled Okanogan county roads.
This segment of Old 97 was comprised of 24' aging and failing BST pavement with gravel shoulders, and was subject to weight restrictions every spring thaw. Several areas has clear zone and unresolved slope issues, raising safety concerns.
The road was widened to accommodate standard shoulders, new hot mix asphalt pavement on a full depth reclamation base, and included slope flattening and guardrail to address safety concerns.
