Old Hwy 97 is one of the highest-traveled roads on the Okanogan County road system. It is an important connector between the Okanogan-Omak area and Brewster, and serves an abundance of agricultural and residential land west of the Okanogan River. The speed limit is currently 55 MPH. The road structure is substandard and the BST surfacing shows signs of distress. This section of road is also subject to seasonal road restrictions, which impacts the agricultural producers who are a vital part of this county's economy. Lane widths measure between 10' and 11', with 1' shoulders. Proposed improvements include new and/or recycled base and hot mix asphalt. The exact structural section will be further evaluated and determined during the design process. The cross section will include 12' lanes and 4' shoulders.
